THE IF-THEN OF A LIFETIME

If God breathed life into me; and in my breath is God’s breath,
And in God’s breath is the Spirit, then the Spirit is in my breath;
And I must breathe deeply and savor the treasure in the air,
To let it change me and make me something more enlightened and fair.
For if I know the wind blows where it will to high places which I cannot see,
And if I truly believe God’s great gift is breathing life into me,
Then, I know God gives it to quicken my heart and set me free;
And I will receive it and let it teach me what I’m meant to be.
